Good morning! How are you today? It's 6:01 AM and I've already had 2 cups of coffee... so I'm doing pretty great! ;) We received more snow last night, so Jaydon had to wake up early (at 4 am) to get to the school early enough to remove snow before the kids start showing up. I always wake up with him, and we try to carve out at least 5-10 minutes to sit with our coffee and visit. I always look forward to that time with him... and it is totally worth waking up early for. I always heat up his breakfast, pack his lunch and pour his coffee in a thermos. So when he ran out the door at 5 this morning I debated on crawling back into bed for all of an hour... but decided to stay up instead. I've now got just 6 minutes before I need to head down and wake up the girls for school... so, without further ado...
The 2016 Vol.25 Valentine's sale is live in the shop!
This sale means you can grab an 8x10 print at half off. 8x10 prints for $10! The sale ends Sunday night! :)
Also, it is now 8:30. I got the girls off to school and then went in a frenzy cleaning the house. Jaydon came home Tuesday with a cold and was pretty miserable last night. Amazing how much motivation I have to deep clean when someone in the family is sick! hah. Surely I'm not the only one to do that? He did something to his knee Saturday and he's been hobbling around, and now has a cold... and to top it off he fell yesterday (on ice) after getting home from work. Although his backpack broke most of his fall. I'm super thankful for his work ethic. He's a hard worker getting up at 4 this morning in spite of feeling less than stellar.
Okay! So, the sale has been going on since yesterday morning and I've had a few orders come through. The Geometric hear in the mini size looks to be a favorite! I have some printing to do, I like to keep up on orders when I have a sale running. It keeps me from feeling overwhelmed. :) I hope you have a great day!
If you have Valentine's shopping to do, I would love to help you out with that! I'll ship directly to the recipient and you can save $10! ;)
I listed the New Valentine's themed overlay set for 2016! I just now realized I haven't blogged it yet! So this is what it looks like...
It seems to be a favorite already this year. My Valentine's overlay sets seem to consistently be my best sellers. Thank you for that!
So, I also kicked off a 50% off sale when I listed this set. There are 3 days left to take advantage of the pricing before the code expires! :)
-SAVE 50% Off in the Digital Shop-
psst... there is also a sale live in my etsy shop and a brand new wall hanging listed. I'll share more in a future post!
I just listed two new customizable art prints in VOL25. They were fun to work on, and I hope you love them! I wanted to create some new art in time for Valentines day, and these should do quite nicely. Perfect for gift giving, gift suggesting... you know?
So I realized yesterday that we have had snow for 6 weeks. Our driveway is currently a mess. My parents haven't been able to get up their driveway for quite some time and I think that my dad and Jaydon have decided that the 4 wheelers are not always going to cut it in the snow removal department. My dad is currently shopping for a tractor with a snowblower attachment, one that we can borrow when needed. Yay!
In that 6 weeks we've only had a handful of sunny days. I really do miss those. But, this much snow means we will hopefully have a nice normal summer without lightening firestorms that suck up the entire summer. I like to enjoy my summers river side with an iced mocha, I'm not so much into the smokey air and wondering every day if the fire is going to peek the hill and cause us to evacuate... again. :)
Hope your winter is treating you well. Only 50 some days left until Spring.... unless I'm off in that. But I'm pretty sure I'm at least close...
Quote Mondays are back again! I just finished up 24 new quotes, so I can post a new quote every other Monday you guys! The beginning of the year I always struggle with the designs for these, and I've contemplated using my own handwriting instead of a font. But, I always over think it and ultimately end up deciding that my hand writing isn't perfect enough to be used in the quotes. Well, this year I tossed that thought process to the wind. I think we can all benefit from a little imperfectness in our lives... and I'm going to provide that for you! :)
This week I am working on gathering information for my taxes. I filed my WA state sales tax before the deadline for the for first time in VOL25 history and I am so proud of myself. :) I also sold more artwork to people here in the beautiful state of WA than I have in past years. So yay for that! This year I refuse to procrastinate on my taxes. I've deemed 2016 the year of organization. I'm making that stick. Trying to form some routines and habits that will last through the year.
What are you most excited about for 2016? I touched on a few things I'm looking forward to in my last post. 2015 was a big year for change for us in regards to our eating habits, and making that change has given me some momentum and confidence to tackle even bigger dreams/projects! :)
If you are reading this, thank you! I know I seem to have dropped off the face of my blog. My last post was December 15th! Wow. I was a little shocked when I logged in and seen that. It sure doesn't seem like it was that long ago. Anyhow, I've been giving a lot of thought to a lot of things lately. After the Christmas and New Years break I just kind of went into a relaxed frame of mind. I think I was suffering from a little bit of a burned out feeling. I LOVE the holiday rush, and the excitement that comes with it. It is the absolute most rewarding thing for me as a small business owner to see people choosing my art for their homes, or their friends' homes. It makes me feel like I might be on the right path with my business. Since I feel like so much of what I am doing with my business is heart driven, sometimes I wonder if I should be taking a different approach and ignore my gut. Don't do that. It never feels right! :)
Our cabin at sunset a week ago. We have even more feet of snow piled up now. The sled is almost completely snowed in.
But, back to that feeling of burned out-ness. I was enjoying being a little more present in day to day and just feeling super un-inspired. That is so not typical for me, this time of year. Generally I get hit with inspiration and I put off doing my taxes so I can devote the time that inspiration demands. This year, it just wasn't there. I bought a planner though, and just this morning I set some 2016 goals for VOL25. Here is the planner I bought:
You can find yours here
It has helped give me a little direction which has slowly started me back on that path of being inspired. Yesterday I posted a peek at something new I was experimenting with.
The feedback was soo amazing that I think I have an obligation to finalize details and get this baby listed! :) I also started 3 different illustrations this week for new Science posters, but neither of them felt right so I abandoned each. I'll go back with a fresh set of eyes and pick up on where I left off.
I'm going to try and be more intentional with my time (insert the planner) and that includes this blog. I want to get back to a point where I enjoy writing and sharing some of the behind the scenes that happen. Maybe add in a little more personal content, since I feel that has been lacking. I'm not an over-sharer, but I want to find that balance. It seems like the interaction on blogs (mine specifically) has diminished and I miss that. It always made blogging more enjoyable. "Hello, is anyone even out there?" You know- that feeling.
I've also struggled with what direction to take my newsletters. I had moved to a quarterly newsletter last year. But, I keep hearing that e-mail is a tool to be used. One not at the mercy of facebook changes, etc. So, write more intentionally, make your newsletters something people want to get in the mail. I hear weekly is best in terms of frequency. But, I'm not sure I can stay committed to an email every week. What would I talk about!? hah The benefit to weekly versus quarterly. The newsletter could be shorter. Those quarterly e-mails start cramming in quite a bit of information! Weekly e-mails could be short and sweet with maybe some shared links that I think you might be interested in, and maybe a new product from my shop marked down each week. I'm a list maker- lots of lists in progress with all these thoughts on change.
We've also stuck with our primal/paleo/clean eating habit. It has been an entire year since we've made that switch. It was the best thing I've done for myself/family in a long time. I might start sharing some of my favorite tips, or recipes that relate. I think it has been on more people's minds lately, and it seems like such a scary big change when you are just starting out. But you know what- some of the most rewarding things you will ever do begin with that scary feeling. :)
So, that is my random ramblings that come with a new year. This is also the year we really work Dave Ramsey's plan and work to become completely debt free, and also try to finish my studio building completely out of pocket. 2016 is going to be a big year for change, goal setting and goal achieving! :) I hope you continue to stick it out with me as I find my direction in this big space called the internet!
Hello everyone! I realized today just how close Christmas is! I thought I had better share my holiday shipping deadline. Tomorrow is the last day you can place an order and I feel safe guaranteeing it will arrive before Christmas. It takes me a few days to process an order, and the 21st is the last day that USPS guarantee's Christmas delivery within the US via priority mail. So, if there is something you would like from the shop jump on over and snag it. Or remind your significant other that they are running out of time to grab that art you had on your Christmas list! ;) Shop link here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/vol25
All orders within the US ship via priority mail, so no need to pay extra at this point.
I'm also really considering closing my shop down through next week, to have a little Christmas break. I'm still not certain but I'm tossing the idea around! :)
One of my favorite things to do after the big Black Friday/cyber monday sale is to gather up a bunch of the prints (this isn't all of them) and lay them all out on the dining room table where I can just stare at them. That's weird. I know. ;) But, it is always fun to see what prints coordinate each other the best! This year I had some new brush scripts to play with. Love the boldness of those, and the new unicorn and jackalope prints paired well with SO many of the others. A good friend/customer ordered the unicorn in the 11x14 size, and I had fun pairing it with sooo many of the botanicals. Another customer ordered the Wild and Free print in an 11x14 size, and look how well it goes with Rain!? :)
But... look at these pretty botanicals!!
I'm actually starting the process of decorating the girls' room, and Rain and the Jackalope were created with their room in mind. I owe the inspiration to finally get something done from the nester's cozy minimalist course. Seriously. She is a genius, and gave me the motivation to make things happen NOW. I love her mentality to decorating and how she approaches the obstacles we all encounter. Not having the money, not having the time... she gets to the heart of the matter and manages to inspire you to look past your challenges. :) I can't recommend her book or the course enough. Anyhow I'm sure I'll share more later!
It snowed the night before last. I've been jamming the Christmas records and printing up a storm. The sale this year was better than I could have ever hoped for! I had to expedite more paper, and another ink cartridge that I didn't know I was short on. It has been snowing all day today and I'm worried my UPS guy won't attempt our driveway since it hasnt been plowed. He sometimes calls and I can drive up and meet him. I really need that ink and paper! :) This morning Jaydon took 46 orders to the post office for me! 46!? Craaazy town! I still have about 30 to knock out over the next few days. But I'm almost caught up... and since this is a one person operation (for the most part) I'm pretty happy about that! :)
We are contemplating upgrading my printer. Its a little scary to think so, but if I went with a wider printer it would open me up to an even wider product market. Oh the possibilities! Upgrading to my current printer has been the best business decision I have ever made. It paid for itself fairly quick, and has been an excellent printer. I'm a little hesitant to change for that reason alone.
A peek at a few prints coming off the printer this morning! This year the science inspired prints have been seeing the most love. Thank you to everyone who has supported my shop again this year! I'm hoping to have all Black Friday/ cyber Monday sales out by the weekend. I'm taking a batch of orders from Fri and Sat to the post office a little later this afternoon!! :)
Oh! I also listed this adorable Jackalope:
and this dappled unicorn:
